Relationship Between Human Resource Management and the Delivery of Business Education Programmes in Universities in South-South Nigeria

This study examined the relationship between human resource management and the delivery of Business education programmes in universities in South-South Nigeria. A correlational research design was adopted, and the entire population of 169 business education lecturers in ten public universities participated in the study. Data were collected with a researcher-developed questionnaire. Human Resource Management and Delivery of Business Education Programme Questionnaire (HRMDBEPQ), which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.86 using Cronbach’s alpha. Data were analysed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). Findings revealed a strong positive and significant relationship between human resource management and achievement of programme objectives as well as the preparation of employable graduates. A weaker but significant positive relationship was also found between human resource management and preparation of self-employable graduates. These results suggest that effective human resource management is central to the quality delivery of business education programmes, though its impact on self-employability outcomes may be mediated by additional factors such as entrepreneurship curriculum and industry linkages. The study recommends that university administrators, government, and the National Universities Commission should strengthen HRM policies, training, and capacity-building initiatives to enhance programme outcomes and graduate readiness.
